Yes, it’s winter. Yes, it’s cold. Yes, you could just stay home, wrapped in blankets and binge watch your favourite series on Netflix.
But why would you, when you could attend the Fredericton FROSTival?
As Atlantic Canada’s largest winter celebration, FROSTival includes the region’s best outdoor winter festivals, events and indoor cultural experiences.
This year’s celebrations include more than 150+ events over three jam packed weekends from January 18 – February 2, 2020.
FROSTival has something for everyone! From families, cultural enthusiasts, foodies and everyone in between, there’s a broad mix of both indoor and outdoor festivals and events to fit all needs.
This years’ festival kicks off with entertainment for all tastes this week including Fredericton Playhouse Spotlight Series. The ice sculpture showcase which is always a hit with the crowds, returns this year and features the work of Ice Sculptor Chef Richard Chiasson throughout the downtown core.
And you will have plenty of opportunities to get active! Race under the lights at Crabbe Mountain, tie up your skates and join the crowds at the annual Daily Gleaner Skating parties, take part in the Maritime Cup cross country ski race or join the Radical Edge on a snowy nature walk at their Stars and Snow Shoe event.
You could try your hand at rock climbing the same weekend as the Banff Mountain Film Festival makes its stop in Fredericton (next week)! Or if you prefer, soak up the arts & culture scene with events ranging from family art day to free admission to the local galleries during the Downtown Gallery Hop and ringing in the Chinese New Year with contemporary dances, music, martial arts and a fashion show. You will also have many chances to get creative with edVentures Fredericton workshops throughout the festival.
The 3rd and final weekend of the FROTival is the music lover’s most anticipated weekend of FROSTival! This year celebrating its tenth anniversary in style, FROSTival flagship partner Shivering Songs will welcome names such as Matt Andersen, Motherhood, les Hay Babies and more! Experience Fredericton’s most unique performance venues from January 29 to February 2nd.
Cozy up with your spouse or partner in a theatre to see what Fredericton’s dramatists and playwrights have been up to! Branch Out Productions Presents: Murder on the Orient Express and Theatre UNB Presents: The 39 Steps.
And of course, don’t forget to weave the markets into your schedule. With three taking place on Saturdays, there’s plenty to see and shop for at the Fredericton Boyce Farmers’ Market, the Cultural Market and the Northside Market! Add these NEW ones to your list as well: the Queens Pop-up Market featuring local artists and artisans Saturdays throughout the festival and the Night Market at the Roundhouse, where you’ll find artisans, and of course, craft beer Thursday nights throughout the festival!
See you on the slopes, meet you at the performance venues, and around the dinner tables in Fredericton this January 18 – February 2!
